History of the school

Although Akadem Primary School is a newly established school, it builds on the long-standing and successful educational work of 1. Slovanské gymnázium. It is an educational project that aims to extend the tried-and-tested concept of education from secondary level down to primary level, of course taking into account all the age-related and other specifics of primary school pupils.

The school is housed in a beautiful and architecturally significant building at Štěpánská 560/8, on the corner of Štěpánská and Žitná streets, in the historically important area of the New Town. The building's history dates back to the time when Charles IV founded the New Town; originally a Gothic parsonage stood here, and the original Gothic cellar has survived to this day. The oldest written mention of the building dates from 1379. It is assumed that a school operated in the parsonage building from the very beginning, and its use for school purposes is reliably documented in records from the 17th century. In the first half of the 18th century, the building underwent a major reconstruction in the Baroque style, designed by the architect Pavel Ignác Bayer, giving it the appearance it retains to this day. Besides the building itself, its surviving interiors and decorations are also worth attention, especially the salon on the upper floor, decorated with wall paintings on canvas in a playful Rococo style, restored by the painter K. Nácovský in 1879. In the corner stands an older, diagonally placed tiled stove. Some of the faience tiles used in the flooring beneath the stove come from workshops in Delft and Ansbach. Two terracotta vases from Prague stove-making workshops dating from around 1860, placed on the central staircase, are also a fine artistic and craft detail. The building has been a protected heritage site since 1971.

Our team

Our team is made up of teachers who are experts in their fields and who also have strong pedagogical knowledge and skills. They continue to develop themselves professionally, but above all, they have a genuine rapport with children and want to help them make the first stage of their educational journey as successful as possible. It goes without saying that they create a friendly and safe environment for children's learning.

We are currently building our team, so information about individual team members will be added later. In the meantime, you can get to know the school's management.
