Preparatory year

Admission to the preparatory year (Year 0) for the 2025/2026 school year

Enrolment of children takes place:

• on Tuesday 1 April 2025 from 14.00 to 18.00,
• individually by arrangement(please use the contact form, and we will offer you an individual enrolment date).

Conditions of admission

A child may be enrolled in the preparatory year if they have been granted a deferral of compulsory school attendance (for the 2025/2026 school year, this applies to children born between 1 September 2018 and 31 August 2019) or if they are in their last year before starting compulsory school attendance (i.e. born between 1 September 2019 and 31 August 2020) and it is expected that attending the preparatory year will help balance their development. Children with a deferral of compulsory school attendance are given priority.

The parent or guardian submits a written application, to which a written recommendation from a school counselling facility must be attached.

Course of the admissions procedure

1. The parent or guardian, together with the child, personally attends enrolment on 1 April 2025 or on an individually arranged date. During enrolment, they:
   • submit a written application for the child's admission (the form can be downloaded from the school's website, or filled in at the school during enrolment);
   • attach a recommendation from a school counselling facility to the application;
   • present the decision granting a deferral of compulsory school attendance (for a child with a deferral);
   • present personal documents: the child's birth certificate (or the child's identity card or passport) and their own identity document (identity card or passport), or a residence permit in the Czech Republic, if applicable.
2. As part of the enrolment, an admission interview takes place, on the basis of which it is assessed whether and to what extent the applicant meets the criteria for admission to the preparatory year at Akadem Primary School.
3. Based on the evaluation of the criteria, the ranking of applicants is determined, and the head teacher issues a decision on admission or non-admission.
4. We send the parent or guardian a proposal for admission to the preparatory year by e-mail, the decision on admission is handed to the parent or guardian when signing the contract. In the event of non-admission, we send the decision on non-admission to the parent or guardian in writing (by post to their home address or to the contact address stated in the application for admission).

Criteria for admitting a child to the preparatory year

Basic criteria for admission:

1. The applicant meets the conditions for admission – age, submission of a written application, personal attendance of the child and the parent or guardian at enrolment.
2. The applicant meets the conditions for education according to the school education programme (assessed and verified by a member of school staff at the time of enrolment).

Criteria for determining the ranking of applicants if the number of applicants meeting the basic criteria exceeds the number of pupils to be admitted:

1. The applicant has been granted a deferral of compulsory school attendance.
2. The applicant has a sibling who is already a pupil at Akadem Primary School.
3. The applicant resides in the Prague 2 municipal district.
